Experience a night full of live Latin Salsa and Cha cha cha music by Danilo’s Orquesta Universal on New Year’s Eve at Oakland Marriott Hotel’s huge ballroom.
Danilo y Orquesta Universal performs a wide variety of Latin music, from Salsa to Latin Jazz, Merengue, Cha Cha Cha, Reggaeton, and Cumbia. They also play some R&B, Jazz standards, and Swing.
The famous Latin Band has performed extensively in the Bay Area and beyond. This group was formed by Danilo in 1994 and Danilo and members of the band have played with great artists such as Santana, Spearhead, Tito Puente, The Temptations, The Four Tops, Bernadette Peters, Celia Cruz, and many more.
Danilo or Roger Danilo Paiz to his friends and family, is the band’s lead singer, composer, percussionist, guitarist, and founder.
As a child he was more exposed to jazz because his grandfather, Pancho Perez, took him to rehearsals of his Big Band era jazz group. This gave Danilo a strong foundation for his composing skills and unique and original vocal style.
Throughout his musical career, Danilo has performed with extraordinary internationally known musicians such as Ray Baretto, Ruben Blades, Mary Wilson of the Supremes, Benny Velarde and his Super Combo, Andy Narell, Ray Obiedo, Dave Valentin, Dizzy Gillespie, and Cal Tjader.
One of the highlights of his career was in 1989 where he performed with various artists like Ruben Blades, Carlos Santana, Tito Puente, Celia Cruz, Jerry Garcia, Poncho Sanchez, and Francisco Aguabella as part of an HBO special called “A Latino Session,” filmed at the L.A. Biltmore Hotel.
In 1993 he wrote, recorded, and released his album “Vivencias” which means Personal Experiences; and the year after that he formed his own salsa band, Orquesta Universal. He wrote, recorded, and released his second album, “Avanzando,” in 1997. He continues to compose and perform throughout the Bay Area both with his Salsa orchestra, as well as with his Flamenco/Gypsy guitar group.
